Our choir concert was yesterday at our local performing arts centre. The theme was FAMILY. We sang a medley from Mamma Mia plus songs such as Dance with My Father, Chosen Family, Sister Song, In My Daughter's Eyes and We are Family. The youth choir also sang songs and there were poetry readings and dance acts too. Our usual choir mistress had taken this academic year off to spend more time with her family but is reported to be returning in September. We had been led this past year by a stand-in who has been quite amusing, even when she tells us off for doing something wrong. Her style and approach has been quite different but nevertheless likeable. Of course yesterday was baking hot and we are not allowed to bring water bottles onto the stage, so under the lighting and smoke effects, we were boiling.
There are about 80 of us in the choir altogether. Four of them are from the same family - father, mother with their son and daughter in their early twenties. Sadly the father died two weeks ago from cancer. He had not been to rehearsals for the last year, but hoped to return at some stage. It was quite emotional when his wife announced his death last week on our Whatsapp group. There were over 50 messages of outpouring sympathy. It made it all the harder to sing some of those emotional words about FAMILY and FATHER in the songs.
I hope to be able to post some videos later when I can get hold of some.

No water for the singers?! That rule needs adapting when it is as hot as it is right now. O.K.'s village brass band always have water on the stage for the musicians, they can't play well without.
That's so sad about the family in your choir. I hope they can find some comfort in the many messages from all of you.
It seems very strange not to allow water bottles in these temperatures, would they rather have folks keeling over mid song?
I know, we all feel it is unfair not to take water on stage, but I suppose it is because some people have metal water bottles which can make a din if they fall over. I always have a small plastic water bottle and try to smuggle it on board in my music folder.

People show extraordinary courage or forbearance in difficult circumstances. The widow and her children showed that in continuing to attend rehearsals and perform.
The concert sounded fun, if unbearably hot.
It was fun. It's always sad when it's over as we have spent weeks rehearsing and learning the songs off by heart and then we are on to the next repertoire.
What a great event! Voices raised together. It is a lovely thing you are involved in there ADDY and all the more special because you are essentially a private person. I know it has taken a big effort to simply "get involved" and I applaud you for that gal!
Funnily enough, all the choir members are like one big family and, through it, I have made five very close friends over the last six years.
