Old Age

I seem to be caught in a plethora of medical appointments at the moment. Apart from the ongoing saga of my stomach and the recent dental work which requires follow-up, I had made an appointment with my usual dentist for an annual check-up in July.  However, I have been experiencing palpitations during the night, so an ECG was called for and now a follow-up with the GP to discuss what they have found.  I also have an upcoming appointment with my consultant gastroenterologist in a couple of weeks. It seems my diary is full of appointments. Getting old sucks. I've not been firing on all cylinders and have suspended my gym membership for the month of July to have a bit of a restful few weeks. I hope to be back to my normal self by August.

I had to laugh the other day. I was doing a shift on the till at the foodbank charity shop and was chatting to the Assistant Manageress. She told me her cat is 16 and has dementia. She said it wanders round in the night miaowing, presumably because it forgets what it is supposed to be doing or where it is.  A cat with dementia just made me chuckle.

My old cat (the last one I had, she died in 2013) probably had dementia, too. As far as I could tell, she sometimes simply forgot where her toilet was. She wasn't unclean as such, and not protesting anything (like I very well know cats will do if something goes against their wishes).
We're all mammals and can be affected by the same stuff; a lot of what our old cats went through I saw mirrored in my older relatives and neighbours.

Sorry to hear you have so many issues right now. Hopefully, as you say, by August you'll be back to normal.

Chuckling about the dementia of another living being is not nice ADDY. Previously, I thought you were a kind, caring human being but now I am not so sure.

There are certainly a lot of challenges involved in getting old(er). Spoke to an older relative on the phone yesterday and it's becoming obvious that she now suffers from serious short term memory loss. So she keeps asking the same questions over and over, without any recollection of the answer I gave just a minute or two ago...

Now you come to mention it, my previous cat stopped using the litter tray and went to the toilet anywhere in the house. Maybe that was a sign of her having dementia too.

I am kind and caring, honest!

Oh dear, it is sad, particularly when we know the person well and know how they used to be.

Ha ha, I get it. I feel fantastic, but the bloody liver specialist is hell bent on finding something wrong with me. I’ve had all manner of tests, liver ultrasounds, liver fibroscans, blood tests, yes, I have mild fatty liver, now I have to go for a liver MRI at a cost of $700!!! She’s making me cranky.
