Back home yesterday after a nice week with my mother enjoying the lovely sunshine, hence I have not written myself or visited anyone else's blogs. I made two personal visits to two friends while I was there - to one in Hastings and one in Brighton - so it was nice to sit and chat and not have a paintbrush in my hand. Having said that, on the other remaining days, I was painting a garden shed and planting summer bedding in my mother's garden! I also drove my mother around the local countryside, for which she was heartily thankful, as she barely leaves the house these days, her arthritis having the upper hand in the war of mobility.
As I write, I have two young men in my bedroom (sigh), putting in new wardrobe doors! As soon as they have gone, I shall have my trusty paintbrush in my hand again about to tackle the bedroom, before Kay returns next week from Uni for the summer vacation.

It sounds like that visit was good for both your mother and you and maybe it is worth repeating more often.
welcome home. I'm glad it was a pleasant break away. Hope you are on the final stint of painting and the end is in sight.
Glad you had a nice stay with your Mother. I bet she loved having you stay. You will be looking forward to the summer with Kay - some happy times ahead!!
Is "putting in new wardrobe doors" some form of euphemism I'm not aware of ;-)
Your present state must be similar to the Queen's permanent state. Smelling new paint everywhere! I wonder if she has ever seen anywhere which hasn't just been painted!
Are you planning to invite her in for tea?
Gosh you sound like a busy bee! Hope you're getting time to sit down and have a rest and a cup of tea. Maybe get those nice young men to make you one?!
Lol, two young men in your bedroom, sounds very interesting!! Glad you had a good time with your mum, she must be very glad of your company and the fact you can take her places she wouldn't otherwise go.
CJ xx
Glad you had a good visit Addie - I always find it good to have a break.
Even when you go away you are so busy. So when is the proper holiday? Two young men in your bedroom, you lucky lucky thing you....
Jokes aside, photo's I need photo's of beautiful painted rooms when finished.
My parents are getting older now and more limited in what they can do. Fortunately they live only half an hour away. I wonder sometimes when I read of how much your mother loves it so when you visit, whether she would consider moving at all to be closer.
Going away is good but coming home is just as good.
It was nice to see your blog pop into my reader.
So you didn't drive your mother round hte bend? Or lock the young men in your bedroom. You need to work harder at it.
So glad you enjoyed your break and saw your friends - nice bit of 'catch-up' is good for the soul.
Momentry jealous when reading of the two young men!
Anna :o]
You had me at two young men -- thought maybe you needed me to take one off your hands... but then wardrobe doors are nice too!!
Well home!
Addie - I just finished reading your entire blog. Thank you for your honesty in sharing your experience with alcoholism and the tragic death of your husband from this disease.
I've been sober for over 18 years and having read this, it has reinforced my commitment to sobriety. (I've gone to AA since day one.) I don't ever want to put my loved ones through such horror.
My best wishes for your and your daughter's continued recovery from the pain of the past 5 years.
PS
I'm so envious of the lovely views outside of your window! Such beautiful greenery!!
I'm going to have to read your blog from the beginning - but I wanted you to know I lost my daughter (age 34) to alcoholism. I just started talking about that.
Blogs are read backwards...kinda hard sometimes. I wish there was an option to click and make it not so if you wish!
