The "diet" has not been one written down by anyone but I have just applied common sense. .... eliminating animal fat where at all possible, using vegetable oils or water instead, increasing fibre and reducing sugar. In plain terms...absolutely no crisps, cakes, biscuits, chocolate. THAT HAS BEEN THE HARDEST PART!! No butter or margarine on sandwiches or toast. "Frying" any food in water rather than oils (such as searing meat). Cutting off any animal fat on cuts of meat. Eating more fish. Snacking on fruit and making sure I have at least 5 portions a day of fruit and vegetables. Porridge for breakfast -surprisingly, I have never liked porridge and only started eating it this week, because apparently oats sweep the bloodstream for cholesterol. I am actually beginning to like it,
much to my amazement. It has all paid off. Already I have lost seven pounds in two weeks without even trying and am now 10 stone 7 pounds.
I have not actually started any exercise routine yet (apart from walking Snoopy, although this last snowy week has seen me trying to stay upright on the ice whilst walking him, so I have probably spent a few more calories than usual!!) but I plan to start more exercise this week (aerobics and exercise bike), so hopefully,
I should start to see some change in my shape too. I am already noticing my clothes fit much better this week than they did two weeks ago. I would like to lose a further stone or even stone and a half, before I shall rest easy. That will put me back to the weight I was when I was a young slip of a girl and got married. If Greg can lay off the alcohol, then I can match him by laying off the cholesterol. I plan to have a fasting blood test in about 6 weeks' time to see whether the cholesterol levels in my blood-stream are indeed reducing as well.
Trouble is, I could murder a packet of chocolate biscuits!!!much to my amazement. It has all paid off. Already I have lost seven pounds in two weeks without even trying and am now 10 stone 7 pounds.

Best of luck with your dietary changes. I, too, have to make some changes due to high cholestrol.
R - I really admire you adopting the new eating plan, am so glad that its having an effect already. Stick with it, and good luck! X
Oh!! That sounds like a wonderful diet and very similar to the one we were on. I lost 20 lbs on it and kept most of it off even though we aren't doing the diet at the moment. The same can't be said for The Man though. He lost almost 40 and has put at least 30 of it back on. We start it again in a couple of weeks now that our vacation is well behind us.
Might I suggest half a grapefruit with your porridge in the morning? It is very good for lowering cholesterol. Try a little sweetener on the top - here we have white and brown fake sugar. I like the brown on my buckwheat every morning and white on the grapefruit.
I enjoyed your blog, it made me chuckle. You are a great inspiration with your diet and exercise regime, and the results have been very impressive. I have become quite slovenly with regards to erecise and diet during this cold snap, and have yet to lose the extra pounds I gained over Christmas. I shall be watching your progress with interest.
Mmmmmm..I too am trying to shift some punds, so l know how hard t is...but I have news that it is all hormonal and l have started a post in draft just about that..not knowing your age roserio, I can only say that I myself am heartened to know its not all me and my big fat hips, l mean gob!!
And there I was thinking that substituting Benecol for butter was a big step....I bow down before you! Goodest luck to you...!
Aims - I might try the grapefruit. Funnily enough,if I were to have the statin I was prescribed, you cannot have grapefruit - it interferes with the liver's absorption of the statin - apparently.
FFF- yes hormones have a lot to answer for. My weight started to rise after my hysterectomy 8 years ago. At first I kidded myself I could not exercise because I might split the scar, but now I can't really use that excuse (or can I????)
NB - Benecol is a good start and in any case you are much younger, so there is not the urgency as in my case. Little changes here and there can make all the difference.
Blimey, well done!
I want those biscuits :0(
You have more willpower than I. Although I don't have cholestrol problems, I could do with losing a couple of stones!
Well done, Rosiero. That shows resolution and you have committed yourself to it by disclosing your target to us!
We'll be watching!
I think grapefruit interferes with the effectiveness of quite a number of drugs, not just statins, and there was a recent report that all fruit juices do so to some degree. I imagine one should not take the pills anywhere near the time you eat the grapefruit.
Well Done!
I should really take a leaf out of your book. It creeps up so slowly, doesn't it?
That's fantastic Rosiero and I'll bet you are beginning to feel better already as well. Good luck with it. A x
Could definitely do with joining you on this diet. I'm terrible overweight for my height and I eat far too much crap. Good luck with yours. Maybe one day, I'll get there too.
CJ xx
Well done you. I've joined a gym and started eating a proper meal at lunchtime instead of in the evening, and cut out the chocolates. After five weeks of that I haven't lost one gram!
Good move to show a little self sacrifice yourself, just as a show of support.
excellent! that's exactly the way to do it (i read). slow steady changes rather than a radical diet. good for you!!
and yes, are those mcvitie's in the bottom picture? i ate a whole tube of them over the weekend.
sigh.
Hi, my cholestrol was slightly up last year and instead of pills, I switched some foods around too!
The porridge is good but I'd say that anyway being a Scot!
I didn't really stop eating the things I liked ~I only ate a bit less of them and it worked my cholestrol quickly fell back down to normal.
Good luck with things,

You are doing brilliantly! So much better to do it this way than to rely on pills. Well done!
Best of luck Rosiero - some freinds of mine have reduced their cholesterol by their diet, too, with great effect!
Good luck with that one Rosiero, I managed to lose a couple of stones by eating sensibly, but the lure of the chocolate is difficult....
Thank you all for your comments. I shall endeavour to keep this up.

I must stop repeating myself!!!
Very well done Rosiero, I am full of admiration for your steely willpower! It will be very interesting to see if your cholesterol levels have come down, I feel sure they must have done.
