Writers' block

I have been away from home the last week - where else but at my mother's doing chores for her (the usual weeding of the triffids in her garden, for a start). She is also considering putting her house on the market in the new year to move closer to me, probably into a warden-assisted retirement flat half a mile away. She is getting increasingly unable to cope with a four-bedroomed house and all that entails. So we have been sorting and renovating in order to get ready for the sale and downsizing in the new year.

I got back yesterday and now face the pile of chores still to do in my house, plus weed through the post which came in my absence. I have kept in touch with your blogs and tried where possible to comment, but as for my own - I think I have writers' block. Can't think of a damn thing to say. So I'll keep schtumm for a while till something coherent jumps into the tired old brain. Bear with me.

Hello ,

I am an internet marketing manager for Hickory Wind Ranch, a sober living environment in Austin, TX. I am contacting you about the opportunity for a guest post on your site. Could be rather timely considering you're going through a bout with writer's block. It's like a cold - lasts two weeks no matter what you do.

We've got some great articles about sober living and addiction recovery that you and your readers might enjoy. We would also be open to posting some of your content on our blog as well.

I would have emailed you but was unable to find any contact info on your blog, so I thought I might try this approach. Feel free to email me back if you are interested.

Keep up the writing!

Thanks,

Chris Galis

Hello,

Just a quickie to say please consider using Freegle when it comes time to downsize your mum's house.

It's an online reuse group, run on Yahoo groups, that I am involved in. Simply a case of putting on a message saying "I've got this, who would like it?" and hopefully someone will email and come and collect it from you.

The move will be a benefit to you both. You will know that your mum is safe and looked after, and you will have to do less triffid wrangling.

I'm sure that you will find something of interest to say, you usually do. :-)

Splendid idea for your Mum to move nearer you...it'll be so much better for both of you.

Nothing like a bit of writer's block to call in some odd comments!

Here's another odd one:

On a point of order, Madam Chairman, the spelling of dumb in German is "Stumm", not "Schtumm", though it's pronounced the same!

Haha. Thank you Doglover for pointing that out. I studied German at uni and lived in Germany for 4 years, so I knew that, but was using the Jewish spelling, which is how the word got into English usage, I think! Yes some newcomers to the comments box this time!

hickorywindranch - Thank you for your offer, but my blog is merely a personal diary of life with an alcoholic partner and afterwards. I don't really consider it a commercial venture or having a wide readership.

That will be nice having your mum living near by.

I get online block occasionally, and can't tweet or think of anything to say on Facebook. Blogging isn't particularly productive for me right now either, though I'm trying to keep up.

As far as blogging goes I have had block for months for which I feel guilty a lot. I am not sure why, perhaps its because I still comment everywhere.

I think your mum moving closer would be great.

Don't worry about the bloggers block at all, we could start a competition, who can not write for the longest, err perhaps not.

I think it comes with the change of seasons, a sort of calm period. But what do I know, except that I just click on my blog and stare at the empty page!

It sounds like that will be a good move in the long run, both for you and your mum. Best of luck with it!

Glad to hear that you are back. I hope that your Mother will move closer to you, it will be so nice to be able to pop over for quick visits, and in warden-maintained accommodation the chores should be considerably less.

I regularly 'look out' to see if you have written on your blog. It is always lovely to read about your life and what you have been up to, but I can understand that there must be times when you amazing bloggers need to take a break. Just remember that I don't drop in to read rocket-science - just day to day is what I like to hear. Take care Addy and I hope you find time to have a bit of a break after working so hard at you Mum's house x
