QUIET

The house was full of laughter and chatter over the last few weeks as both Kay and my mother shared Christmas with me. Kay went back to uni last week and I have just returned from taking my mother back home replenishing her larder and fridge with food in case there is more snow on the way. My house now seems deathly quiet with only the sound of ticking clocks and Snoopy's rather snuffled breathing. No different from all the months before, but you can cut the contrast with the previous few weeks with a knife. I shall have to get used to being on my own again until Easter. Just as well I have plans to paint everything in sight, unless it moves or breathes!

  1. Take time to reflect, Addy, because I beleive that is good for your soul. But then take time to plan for the future. Painting is a BRILLIANT way to recharge. Paint everything in site - if that's what it takes!

    Thinking of you. xxx

  5. A new year and a good place to start. Painting sounds good. Even Snoopy will enjoy watching you change your home into a colourful new palette. And I do know (from personal experience when I was about 3), that dogs don't mind being painted either! Go for it! And a Happy New Year. A x

  8. decorating is very therapeutic - the whole of October I stripped, painted, papered etc. a lot of the house. It cleared my head when I need to.

Like you suddenly my wife is back at work, my daughter at school and my son and uni and I walk around on tiptoe as I don't want to disturb the silence... :-)

  9. hey-- I bought Boscoe's red booties at the pet store here in town. he'd been using toby's old ones, but he slid going up the stairs, so i bought a near pair that has non-skid soles.

they look a lot like the ones here.

  10. I yearn for quiet. I hope between the painting there is peace.

  11. Turn the radio up, put the TV on and:
    "dance like there's nobody watching,
    Sing like there's nobody listening,
And live like it's heaven on earth."
(That's not quite the quote, but it seems right!)

  12. Hi Addy,

Silence can be deafening and days long. It will take time I am sure to get used to it and while you are busy you will probably find there are not enough hours for what you want to do. Do though take some time out to relax and rest and try to find some pampering time that you deserve.

    All the best

  13. Enjoy the painting Addy - very therapeutic by the sound of it. I'm sure you have a lot of friends to dispel the silence if it gets too loud.

  16. I hope the painting is going well. There are some wonderful tones of colour to explore and also some great bargains to be had in the stores to compliment your new rooms. Have fun - the days are gradually beginning to get longer:)

  17. I love your blog. It gives me insight into what it must be like to be in a relationship with an alcoholic- me- in other words. I dont know how my husband put up with my drinking for as long as he did.
