Frustrating

I consider myself to be reasonably able to negotiate new technology, given I am now retired, living alone and do not always have my daughter around most of the time to fall back on at times when technology defeats me. So it has been a little frustrating that there are some of you out there - particularly those who write Wordpress blogs, where, try as I might, I cannot leave a comment. There is one blog in particular where I have tried to leave comments time after time over the last few months. The comment box is there. It has my correct blogname, email address and blog address. I write my comment, press "submit" and the comment never appears. At first I hoped it was just waiting for blog administrator's approval before being published, but that was not the reason as weeks later the comments still don't appear. I have even googled for advice on what to do if my comment won't appear, but that seems to draw a blank, as the answers seem to be directed at the blog owner not being able to receive comments, rather than the commenter not being able to leave comments.

So if you use Wordpress, live in the USA, are going through a bad patch  and don't get any comments from me, it is not for the want of me trying! If anyone else has any ideas what I am doing wrong, let me know.

Be interesting if the guy who thinks he has the answer has trouble leaving a comment on your blog...

Me? I haven't a clue. Try hitting 'Enter' a bit harder.

Try a different browser. If you use IE try Chrome, if you use Chrome try with firefox. Copy your comment before you hit enter and try again the second time by pasting in, I have found sometimes the first enter just eats it, but the second time it posts it. I also went through a phase where comment leaving become rather difficult and I mostly gave up trying!!!

The answer is probably with the blog owner.

To explain... there are wordpress blogs and then there are wordpress blogs....

Ok - if you go to wordpress.com that operates like good old blogger.com that you are used to. I.e. you set up a blog that has someething like blahblah.wordpress.com as its address like blahblah.blogspot.co.uk etc.

Now you can also get hold of the software of wordpress and load it on your own server and run up a blog or blogs that whilst running on Wordpress are not on the main system. Some people do this so they have much more control over the url, the stats, the security etc. From your description I think the issue is with one of those kind. My experience is either the authors never accept any comments or it is very hit and miss whether they get posted - whether that is down to the whim of the author or just that the software hosted like that is flakey around comment processing I don't know frankly or whether they have put in some spam protection software which is over zealous. I had to at somepoint some time back contact a spam software provider as many of my comments on wordpress blogs were being treated as spam. This seemed to be solely since one person had hit the Spam marker on one of my comments and that blackmarked me as a Spammer. However after some conversation I did get the problem fixed but frankly I'm lucky ... I'm supposedly an IT professional I can't seen how someone without my knowledge would have got on with it really
