One year on

How time marches on. It's a year since Snoopy died. I cannot believe a whole year has passed.  I still miss him like mad. If truth be told, I was more upset at his passing than that of Greg's. I guess because Greg in his last year or two was so difficult to deal with, whereas Snoopy was a loyal, loving being right up to his last breath. People keep asking when I am going to get another dog, but for now I don't feel I could, as it would seem disloyal to him. He was such a wonderful dog. He is irreplaceable.

Our loyal wonderful Zac died October 19 2012, just over a year before my husband died of alcoholism and cancer. Zac was my rock through all the desperate months of trying to save my husband. He was also such an amazing character, a dark brown Chihuahua with the extra long legs and oversized ears. He was an amazing climber and escape artist, easily climbing over 6 foot fences and sailing off the tops of chairs and couches. He slept with me on the living room couch for several years and comforted me a thousand times as my husband lost his battle with alcohol.
As a veterinarian I have heard more than one pet owner tell me that they were more distressed by the loss of their pet than their spouse.
R.I.P. Snoopy and Zac-may you be chasing balls and rainbows in Heaven with your masters now free from the bonds of alcohol.

Didn't realise it was a year Addy, partly because I don't look into my blog very often now. I can just imagine how you must still miss your faithful Snoopy and maybe one day you will feel the time is right to get another dog, not to replace Snoopy but just because you feel the need once again for the pleasure he gave you. A x

Dear Snoopy, that year seems to have gone by in a flash, however, he will always live on in your heart. If you do ever decide to bring another dog into your life, I know that it couldn't be more loved or well cared for, as you showed time and time again in your posts when Snoopy was mentioned.

We are all feeling a huge dog-shaped hole in our lives right now. We lost our beautiful Golden Retriever/German Shepherd cross dog Pippa on Tuesday. She was fourteen years old we met her family on holiday, when her mother unexpectedly gave birth on a camping holiday in Strandhill, west of Ireland. We collected her from her home in Wales when she was eight weeks old and she has been our constant companion and 4th family member, until her back legs finally gave up on her on Monday evening. She was fourteen years old and is sorely missed.

Ellen - I am so sorry for your loss. They leave such a big hole in our lives, don't they? Snoopy was half German Shepherd too, crossed with a Manchester Terrier. I think a lot of German Shepherds have back leg problems as they grow older and Snoopy's gave way the day before we made the awful decision to have him put down.

Trisha - like Zac, Snoopy was my rock which I clung to as help to normalise our lives when Greg was at the peak of his alcoholism. I think that is why I miss him so much. Zac sounds a real character and you must miss him dearly.

I can't believe it's a year either - and I would be utterly devastated if anything happened to my Moll xx
