London's Burning

A year ago, parts of London were being torched and looted by kids. That was a Bad Thing. This week, parts of London are seeing a torch again but that is a Good Thing! How things can change!

As the Olympic Torch was less than half a mile away from my house yesterday morning, Kay, her friend and I went to wave enthusiastically. It was quite a carnival atmosphere, even well before the torch arrived.

Then the torch came....

The weather miraculously complied too. Perfect!

It's the best type of torch! Looks amazing there...and in the sunshine...

I remember see the torch come through my town in North Carolina for the Atlanta Games in 1996. It was exciting.

One year on ...that was a very timely reminder! That thought makes the feel-good factor that the Olympic Games has already brought to London, burn even brighter. Bring on the games!

Daughter and hubby went to see it when it was up here (I opted for a lie in, didn't work, long story). They said it was a really great atmosphere, too. I like the idea of the torch more than the games; ordinary people who do extraordinary things being celebrated in their communities. Great idea!

The torch came to Falmouth back in May so I have some idea of what it was like in London - very exciting, and so good to have good news for once!

It is quite an emotional moment when you see it, but I think it's because we know we'll never see it again.

I must admit, I'm not a fan of the Olympics but the torch did come to our local village of Bamburgh which did cause a mass of excitement.

I was amazed at how excited I felt by it all. Great wasn't it. You are lucky to have had it so close.

We were unable to see the torch when it came near our locality so we went to Stratford on Avon, to daughter's, to see it go through there. It was a wonderful atmosphere and we were glad we made the effort. A x
