Catnaps

Who needs a bed, when the stairs will do? My cat is very strange. When she was a kitten, I bought her a proper cat bed. She refused to sleep in it. Instead, she has chosen to sleep all over the house in different places, changing location every few weeks or so, as the fancy takes her. Sometimes she can be found in a chair; sometimes under the coffee table; sometimes on my bed; sometimes on the guest bed; sometimes on top of a handbag or a pair of shoes (she has a real shoe fetish); sometimes in the corner of a room; or sometimes on the stairs. I suppose she gets fed up with the same old view, when she wakes up or nods off, so just changes her location for a different outlook. If she has not been in the habit of sleeping on the stairs for a while, it can be a rude shock to my system, when I go down the stairs in the dark and suddenly find a hairy body draped on one step (usually the one below the top step)! One of these days, it'll be MY body lying at the bottom of the stairs, because I haven't seen her in time!

and how they yelp with such indignity when you do stand on them. one of mine has taken to running between my legs as I walk downstairs. It scares me too that one day I'll trip WOuldn't be without my babies though and yours looks a beauty too, what a coat.

My cat, Jax, is also a multiple bed sleeper. Recently he has taken to the top of my fax machine. He also has a set schedule and if it's broken in any way -- he tells you about it. He's such a spoiled, unpredictable baby. He likes to go outside so I installed a kitty window for him to come and go as he pleases. Everything started out great -- but now he refuses to come in thru the window. He comes to the door and meows and then goes out through the window. I wish he could talk so he could tell me what's up!!

Hi Addy,

Great pic. Looks more comfy than my bed. Our cat does the same- total Goldilocks when it comes to choosing a place to sleep.

All the best

Cats do sleep in the most inconvenient places and always pick some other more inconvenient place to sleep in next. Sleeping on the stairs is a dangerous occupation. I suppose you must be very careful on that first step from the top.

I just found your blog. I am crying. I am scared. I am an alcoholic. I am trying to quit. When I picture my husband in your situation taking care of his alcoholic wife . . . I am so sorry that I totally just made this about myself. I am sorry for what you went through. I am sorry for what I put my family thrugh. I will continue reading your blog. Thank you.

My cat's like that too, Addy. He tends to sleep in the bunks at the moment but sometimes it's on my bed, others on the chair that Pip used in the front room. He has diffrent resting places according to teh time of day, but never in a proper bed!

Lovely pic! Not a cat fan myself - but eldest son is and he would agree that he finds his cat in the most strangest of places.

Hope you continue to see her in time!

Kind regards.

Love the picture! Cats are such individual creatures aren't they. Ours sleeps on the bed all day then potters around the farm at night. Amy tries to order her about sometimes, but gets a look of disgust in return!!

We have three cats, one very very old, 21 years. One a year old and one about 8 months. The elderly one is so so stroppy but she is entitled to be. The year old prefers to live outside only deigning to pop in twice daily for his food. The youngest sleeps every night at the end of my bed on a long chest thing that won't fit anywhere else. I also have nearly come to a cropper tripping over a cat that thinks sleeping in places that are designed for walking on is absolutely fine. Your car is just beautiful. Bet you can't tell I just love my cats. I had better say I love my dog dearly also elst he will be jealous!

Take care on those stairs.
