Easter

We have a little custom in this household which I picked up from our time in Germany. They do it a lot there, but I have not come across anyone else doing it here in England, unless I am mistaken. Just as the Germans introduced the Christmas tree into Victorian England, so they have introduce the Easter tree into our generation in my household. The idea is to put a few twigs into a vase and decorate them with Easter bunnies, chicks and eggs. Here is our version decorated this morning by Kay and me.

The finished tree

One of the chick decorations

One of the bunny decorations

I shall be off to spend a week with my mother, so wish you a Happy Easter and hope you have a lovely chocolatey one!

We came across Easter trees in Pennsylvania where I believe they had an abundance of German immigrants. They decorated their outside trees with huge bunnies and eggs. My mother and I took a load of pictures - back when you had to have them developed.

When we went to get the pics from our trip - they gave us someone else's. We took them back but never got our own pics. What a shame. We really wanted to see those trees again.

Interesting to hear that they have 'Easter trees' in Germany - and here I was thinking it was just an American thing! I see lots of trees and bushes here decorated with (plastic) eggs.

Hi, just found your blog and this Easter tree. Yes it is common here in Germany and I intorduced my American partner to it just a few years ago. He found is puzzling first and now really loves it. it is nice to celebrate a German tradition, but then I am german and now celebrate Thanks Giving. Paula

The Easter tree really is beautiful. You cannot beat hand crafted. The idea in general is a brilliant one. Too late for me this year but I'll definitely keep it mind for next year.

All the best

Wishing you a happy Easter and a lovely break with your mother. I think your little tree is very pretty. I may have a go at creating my own Easter tree using some forsythia from the garden as the family are spending Easter Sunday with us.

Aims - I have not seen it done on outside trees, but from what Almost American says, it is common there. What a shame the developer lost your photos.

Ellen - I am sure it would look great with forsythia.

I noticed things for an 'Easter Tree' in Hobbycraft this year, but didn't know what one was. Thanks for letting me know; I think we'll do one next year.

Have a lovely Easter!

I thought we were the only ones who did the Easter tree, after our years abroad! Yours is very pretty. I will do mine with the girls when they're back on Sunday night. Happy Easter x

Thank you all for your comments. Maybe this custom will take off here in the UK and become widespread.
